'Trail Blazers' 2021 - 2022

Fashion can be a means for connection with each other. It connects us to our history, our land, and our culture. Clothing carries the stories of a place, and of a people, making us feel less alone. This collection is inspired by American perseverence and spirit. The garments are based on a study of historical prairie dresses from The Museum of the Mountain West in Colorado, emblems of American spirit and story-telling. These dresses were all hand-made by American women in the 20's and 30's. Their stories are found in details such as tiny pin-tucks, ruffled hems, and worn sun-bleached fabrics. Each look is completely upcycled; using patchwork, over-dye techniques, and bleaching, the historical silhouettes are transformed into something new. Trail Blazers carries the stories of a place and of a people, and is a means to reconnect with a history, land, and culture.
